What automotive film taught us
Paint protection film on a car has to perform across a surface that curves, flexes, heats, cools, and is subjected to everything from stone chips at highway speed to bird acid and detergent wash cycles. The film has to be optically clear. It cannot lift at edges. It cannot bubble. It cannot yellow. And it has to be applied with millimetre precision across contoured surfaces by a person who has developed the hand sensitivity to feel when tension is right and when it is not.
That is not a skill you acquire in an afternoon. Automotive film installers spend years developing it. The eye, the hand, the patience. The ability to read a surface before the film touches it.
When the DURAFLEX founders looked at the stone protection market, they saw something familiar. A surface that demanded precision. A product that had to perform invisibly over years. And an installation process that was being treated as a commodity.
Why automotive film is not the answer for stone
The instinct to apply automotive paint protection film directly to marble and stone is understandable. The film category exists. The installers exist. The technology exists. Why not use it?

Automotive film is designed for painted steel and composite panels. The adhesive systems are calibrated for those surfaces. Natural stone is porous, crystalline, and chemically reactive in ways that paint is not. What we rebuilt and why
DURAFLEX SPF™ was developed specifically for natural stone in domestic kitchen environments. The polyurethane formulation, the adhesive system, the application methodology, and the removal process were all engineered with stone in mind.
The film is chemically inert to the acids, oils, and cleaning compounds found in a working kitchen. The adhesive is calibrated for the porosity and surface chemistry of natural stone, releasing cleanly after years of installation without residue or damage. The installation process incorporates heat sealing, which bonds the film at every edge and creates the permanence that defines the product’s lifespan.
None of this is accidental. It is the result of taking automotive precision and applying it to a completely different problem.
The installer question
The other thing automotive training gave DURAFLEX was clarity about who should be installing the product.
Film installation on stone is not a stone trade. It does not reward the instincts developed over years of grinding, cutting, and polishing. It rewards the instincts developed over years of applying film to surfaces where a single misaligned edge is immediately visible and immediately unacceptable.
