One of the first questions people ask when they are considering surface protection film is how long it will last. It is a reasonable question. The investment involves both the product and professional installation, and nobody wants to think about replacing it every few years.
The short answer is that DURAFLEX surface protection film is warrantied for five to ten years depending on the product and application. The fuller answer involves understanding what that warranty covers, what affects longevity in practice, and what you can realistically expect from a film that has been installed correctly on a well-prepared surface.

The warranty
DURAFLEX carries a manufacturer warranty against bubbling, lifting, yellowing and delamination. The warranty period is five years on DURAFLEX SPF™ Neo and ten years on DURAFLEX SPF™ Ultra, both subject to Accredited installation.
The warranty is underwritten at the manufacturer level. It is not a retailer guarantee or an installer promise. If a defect covered by the warranty appears within the warranty period, the film is replaced.
This matters because the warranty reflects the manufacturer’s confidence in the product. A five to ten year commitment against lifting and yellowing on a kitchen benchtop is a meaningful statement about how the film is engineered.

What the warranty does not cover
The warranty covers manufacturing defects and premature failure. It does not cover damage caused by misuse, improper cleaning products, or physical impact.
In practice, this means using appropriate cleaning products on the film. Harsh solvents, abrasive cleaners, and bleach-based products are not suitable. Standard kitchen cleaning sprays and gentle detergents are fine. An Accredited installer will walk you through care at the time of installation.
Physical damage from sharp impacts is not covered. Film is not indestructible. A heavy object dropped directly onto the surface at a concentrated point can cause damage. Normal kitchen use, including cutlery and appliances, is well within the film’s tolerances.

What affects how long the film lasts

Several factors influence the practical life of a film installation beyond the warranty period.
Surface preparation is the most important. A film applied to a properly cleaned, polished surface with no contamination will adhere evenly and last significantly longer than one applied to a surface with residue, oils, or previous sealer buildup. This is one of the reasons DURAFLEX uses Accredited installers rather than general tradespeople. The preparation step is as important as the application itself.
Installation quality is the second factor. Film that has been applied with correct tension, properly trimmed at edges, and heat-bonded with appropriate technique will outlast film that has been applied carelessly. A poor installation can begin lifting at edges within months. A correct installation should not lift at all within the warranty period.
Environment plays a role as well. A film on a benchtop that receives heavy daily use in a busy kitchen will age differently to one on a lightly used stone surface in a bathroom or laundry. Both will last well, but the rate of minor surface wear differs.

Self-healing and what it means for longevity
DURAFLEX SPF™ Ultra is self-healing. Minor surface marks from normal kitchen contact, light scratches from cleaning, and small abrasions disappear as the film recovers its original form. This is activated by the ambient heat of the kitchen environment and accelerates slightly with direct warmth.
This property has a meaningful effect on how the film looks over time. A non-self-healing film accumulates micro-abrasions that gradually reduce optical clarity and make the surface appear dull. A self-healing film does not. A correctly installed DURAFLEX SPF™ Ultra installation should look essentially the same at five years as it did at installation.
DURAFLEX SPF™ Neo, designed for honed and textured surfaces, does not have the same self-healing formulation. The surface character of a honed stone is different and the film is engineered accordingly. Its five year warranty reflects a different use case rather than a shorter product life.

After the warranty period
A film that has been correctly installed and properly maintained will often outlast its warranty period significantly. The warranty is a minimum commitment, not a projected lifespan.
When a film does eventually reach the end of its life, it is removed cleanly using high-temperature steam. The process does not damage the stone beneath. The surface is then assessed and a fresh film can be applied if desired.
This is one of the practical advantages of film over other protective approaches. Sealers degrade invisibly and unevenly. Film aging is visible and the remediation is straightforward. There is no guessing about whether protection is still active.

Comparing the investment
Sealing a marble benchtop costs less upfront. It also requires reapplication every one to two years, with no warranty and no visible confirmation that the sealer is still performing. Over a decade, the cumulative cost of regular resealing plus the anxiety of managing an unprotected surface adds up.
A single DURAFLEX installation, warrantied for five to ten years and maintained correctly, is a known investment with a known commitment. The stone beneath is continuously protected without further intervention.
