Red wine. Lemon juice. Guests. Children. Life. Marble is beautiful and fragile, and for decades owning it meant playing the marble police: do not spill, do not spray, do not drip. That was the trade-off.

The Promise

A cure that never quite worked.

Marble owners were sold a long list of cures. Sealers. Coatings. Epoxies. Coverings. They came with overstated claims, real compromise, or simply did not work at all. It was a promise, not a solution. The real answer would come from somewhere no one was looking.

The Concept

A question that changed everything.

In 2020, business partners Chris and Matt were working in the automotive industry, with no ties to marble. One day a client asked a simple question: if paint protection film can protect my car, could it protect my marble benchtops? That was the lightbulb moment, and DURAFLEX Surface Protection Film was born.

Harsh Realities

Cars are not kitchens.

The team learned quickly that paint is not stone and a bonnet is not a benchtop. To live in a kitchen the film had to be non-combustible, heat resistant, easy to clean, food safe and effectively invisible. Off-the-shelf automotive film was not the answer.

The Pivot

Their idea became the entire business.

The opportunity was too perfect to ignore. Bootstrapped, self-funded and built brick by brick, the pair poured time, investment, development, testing and certification into a single vision.

The Solution

Built for stone, from the ground up.

An off-the-shelf product would never cut it. The film needed to be impervious to staining, stone-specific, invisible, self-healing, heat resistant, tested and certified, in a form factor no thicker than a sheet of paper, with no lifting, bubbling or yellowing.

The Process

Tested, certified, ready.

After many setbacks and extensive development, the product was finally ready. It is made from food-safe materials, fire-tested by the CSIRO to AS/NZS 1530.3, with heat-activated self-healing and roughly 95% clarity. One question remained: who would install it?

The Vision

World-class standards, no compromise.

The first instinct was to approach stonemasons. The pair learned that even with in-house training, trimming film to the standard they carried over from automotive work would take years to master. So the decision was made: DURAFLEX would be installed only by automotive paint protection film specialists.

The Network

There can only be one original.

The strategy worked. DURAFLEX head-hunted some of the best automotive paint protection film installers in the country and on-boarded them as factory teams or certified independents. The reviews arrived. Architects and stone galleries began calling. The reputation was set.
