Sealing vs protection film: what each one does
A sealer slows how fast liquids absorb into the stone and needs reapplying over time, but it offers no defence against acid etching. DURAFLEX is a physical barrier bonded to the surface: it stops both staining and etching, needs zero maintenance, and is backed by an up-to-10-year warranty. The two work together, the seal prepares the stone and the film protects it.

Every DURAFLEX installer comes from the automotive film industry, and the technique transfers directly to stone: tension management, edge trimming and heat sealing.
Heat sealing and the up-to-10-year warranty
After the film is applied it is heat sealed to the surface. This activates the adhesive, closes the edges and removes the micro-lifting points that cause bubbling over time. The up-to-10-year warranty covers bubbling, lifting and yellowing, and every Crows Nest job is completed to the same standard.

Can DURAFLEX go over a honed marble splashback as well as the bench?
Yes. The film conforms to vertical surfaces and matte finishes just as well as polished horizontal tops. We protect benchtops, islands and splashbacks, all heat-sealed so the edges stay invisible.
Is it really better than the sealer my stonemason applied?
It does a different job. Sealers soak in and slow staining but cannot prevent acid etching, the cloudy marks from citrus and wine. DURAFLEX sits on top as a barrier, stopping both etching and staining outright.
How long will my Crows Nest kitchen be out of action?
Only a few hours. Installation is a single visit with no curing time, so there is no downtime and you can use the benchtop normally as soon as we finish.
What stone types can you protect?
Marble, quartzite, granite, travertine, limestone, dolomite and engineered stone are all suitable. If you are unsure what your benchtop is, mention it when you request an estimate and we will confirm.

Will I be able to see or feel it?
No. It’s optically clear and ultra-thin, so the stone looks exactly the same. Customers love the satin feel of our ULTRA Satin-X film (if that’s what you’re into).
Does it actually stop stains and etching?
DURAFLEX is completely non porous, meaning spills don’t stand a chance. Wine, coffee, oil and citrus wipe away completely, protecting the stone from etching and staining.
How long does installation take?
Most kitchens are completed in a single day, approximately 2 hours per surface.
