Most stone benchtop owners are used to a maintenance schedule. Seal on installation. Reseal every six to twelve months. Use this cleaner, not that one. Avoid citrus, coffee, wine, anything acidic. Hover over the benchtop during every meal and apologise to guests when they reach for the lemon.

DURAFLEX ends all of that.

There is no maintenance schedule

DURAFLEX SPF™ Ultra is a polyurethane film. It does not absorb. It does not react to acids. It does not require periodic reapplication or refreshing. Once it is installed and heat sealed, it performs the same way on day one as it does in year ten, under normal conditions, without any intervention from you.

There is no product to buy. No specialist cleaner, no pH-neutral stone soap, no impregnating sealer to reapply every season. The only maintenance DURAFLEX requires is the same maintenance you give any other kitchen surface. Wipe it down. Use water and a small amount of dish soap if needed. That is it.

No maintenance? No problem.

What the self-healing topcoat does

Duraflex marble protection film installation, Portsea

The outermost layer of DURAFLEX SPF™ Ultra is a heat-activated self-healing topcoat. It is the same technology used in automotive paint protection film, where it was developed to recover from the fine surface abrasions that accumulate through daily driving.

Applied to a stone benchtop, it means that minor surface marks from cutlery, glasses, and daily contact recover on their own. The heat of a warm kitchen, sunlight through a window, or a brief application of warmth from a hairdryer accelerates the process. The film returns to its original surface state without any product, without any buffing, and without you having to do anything deliberate to make it happen.

The self-healing topcoat in action. Minor surface marks recover without any intervention.

This is not a coating that can be sanded off. It is a function of the polyurethane chemistry in the film itself. As long as the film is intact, the self-healing property is intact.

Designed for life

DURAFLEX is built to last the life of the kitchen. The film does not yellow over time. It does not delaminate under normal conditions. It does not become brittle or crack. The UV-stable chemistry in the film structure prevents the discolouration that affects lesser film products over time.

The 10-year warranty is not a planned obsolescence date. It is a commitment that if the film fails through any fault of the product or the installation, DURAFLEX will fix it. Under normal kitchen use, the film is expected to outlast the warranty period significantly.

What counts as normal conditions

Normal conditions covers everything a kitchen benchtop experiences in a typical household. Meal preparation, cutting, hot cups, cold drinks, cleaning products, running water. DURAFLEX is designed to handle all of it.

The film is not designed for sustained direct contact with open flame, for use as a cutting board surface where a knife would be drawn deliberately across it, or for commercial kitchen environments where abrasive cleaning equipment is in use. These fall outside normal residential conditions.

For the vast majority of homeowners, the film will simply perform quietly in the background, doing its job without drawing any attention to itself.

How the film layers work together

DURAFLEX SPF™ Ultra is a five-layer polyurethane film. Each layer has a specific role in the overall performance of the product, and understanding what they do explains why DURAFLEX requires no maintenance.

The cap sheet protects the film during installation and is removed once the job is complete. The self-healing topcoat sits above the TPU core and recovers minor surface marks through heat activation. The TPU layer is the structural core, providing dimensional stability, heat resistance, and UV resistance. The adhesive layer bonds the film permanently to the stone surface. Together, these layers create a surface that is chemically inert, physically stable, and capable of self-repair, without any input required from the homeowner.

The only cleaning guide you need

Warm water and a small amount of dish soap applied with a soft cloth or sponge. That is the entire cleaning guide for DURAFLEX. There is nothing on the market that needs to be avoided, no pH threshold to stay below, no specialist wipe required after cooking.

Abrasive scrubbing pads should be avoided as with any quality surface. Highly concentrated industrial solvents are unnecessary and best avoided. Beyond those two common-sense exceptions, there is nothing you need to avoid and nothing you need to add to your routine.

The simplicity is the point. One of the things Marble Anxiety™ produces is a constant low-level vigilance around the benchtop. What did that leave? Is that going to stain? Should I wipe that up now? DURAFLEX removes that vigilance by removing the vulnerability that creates it. When the surface cannot etch and cannot stain, the question of what cleaner to use becomes irrelevant.

What happens if the film is damaged

DURAFLEX can be professionally removed and replaced if the film sustains damage significant enough to warrant it. This is not a common occurrence under normal conditions, but it is available. The film is removed using steam, the stone underneath is unaffected, and new film can be applied immediately.

The stone itself is fully protected during this process. Whatever condition the marble was in when the film was applied, that is the condition it will be in when the film comes off. The film was doing its job.
