What dolomite actually is

Dolomite is calcium magnesium carbonate. That magnesium is what makes it harder than pure calcium carbonate marble. On the hardness scale it sits between marble and quartzite. So the showroom claim is not a lie. Dolomite genuinely is harder and more scratch-resistant than Carrara or Calacatta.

The part the showroom leaves out

Hardness and acid resistance are different properties. Dolomite is harder, but it is still a carbonate, and carbonates react with acid.
